we helped kick-start a reform of animal welfare

It all started back in...

How It All Began…

In 1991 we were asked to manufacture a PVCu cat pen for a lady involved in cat rescue.

She had become annoyed & frustrated with constantly treating her timber rescue pens, whilst watching it disintegrating in varying atmospheric conditions.

Another major concern was not being able to tell whether it was actually clean (deterioration of the framework & deep cat scratches provided dirt traps & potential breeding grounds for ringworm & other nasties). A year later, another rescue centre made the same request, but on a much larger scale.

These two incidents made the company realise the enormous benefits of using PVCu in animal housing and a few years on, the Pedigree Pens brand was created.

The directors decided to concentrate their efforts. As a result, Pedigree Pens Ltd was formed and to this day exists solely for animal housing design & manufacture and cattery and kennel construction.

Regulations and Compliance

We were original sponsors of the CIEH Model Licence Conditions to help in their quest to specify minimum standards for boarding cattery construction. This was the standard local authorities measured your cattery against and it is these guidelines that form the back-bone of the current DEFRA (2018) Boarding Regulations.

Whether you require boarding, rescue or veterinary pens you can be assured that all of our products meet or exceed current animal welfare standards and legislation. Ensuring our products, advice and customer service are of the highest standards is at the heart of everything we do.

Cattery Startups

Since the early 90s we have helped many people start their dream business and open a boarding cattery or cat hotel.

Today there are well over 200 boarding catteries nationwide that have a Pedigree Pen installed. In 2017 we launched a directory of Pedigree Pen catteries which is available to the public to search for a genuine Pedigree Pen.

We have also created a guide to help people start a cattery business. The guide takes you step-by-step through the process of starting a cattery from scratch(!) and is updated periodically with new information.

Just some of the people we have helped...

The actual units are superb quality and it is clear that a lot of thought and experience has gone into the design. We were back to full capacity soon after construction was finished, as once we had our open day, word spread very quickly. Cat owners are astounded at the sheer luxury their cats are getting and the cats also fully approve of the extra level of comfort provided by their spacious draught-free cabins.

We were pleased with the whole process and the result is a cattery that is second to none!

Working with Pedigree Pens to develop our dream has been an incredible journey. The Pedigree Pens product is simply the best for all concerned. With a bright, hygienic and modern environment, the customers absolutely love it and the cats settle in so well too.

Its true to say the units have paid for themselves many times over, and we are so much in demand, always fully booked and running waiting lists, we could build on 50 more units and still need more!

Pedigree Pens are an outstanding company to work with, they are very supportive and want to help create your dream. Nothing was too much to ask and the genuine interest and care they have for your project is lovely. We did our research and everytime Pedigree Pens came out on top, they go above and beyond and we highly recommend them.
